What is SPICESS
Space - Place - Interconnection - Change - Environment - sustainability - Scale
Polar Biome
Few plants that can survive, in summer the sun shines 24hrs, Winters are dark and the sun doesn’t rise
Tropical Biome
Found near the equator, Hot and wet, 50 - 260 inches of rain
Desert Biome
cover ⅕ of the planets land, less than 10 inches of rain, 2 types hot+dry and cold, they are found in the tropics of cancer and capricorn
Freshwater Biome
includes: lakes, streams, ponds, rivers, springs, bogs and wetlands. Threats are sewage and industrial waste.
Coral Reef Biome
need warm water, sunlight and clean water to survive. They face many threats like climate change, overfishing, and pollution.
What is Food Secrutiy?

What is Melbournes Foodbowl???
Melborujes food bowl is an area that grows lots of food that supplies the city.
What are some of the challenges for Melbournes food bowl??
Urban Sprawl, climate change, water scarcity and loss of farmland
What are some ways that the Foodbowl of Melbourne can be more resilient
Vertical farming, The role of urban planners, Genetically modified foods, Recycling of food waste, Ensuring a reliable water supply
What is the impact of Urban Sprawl on Melb Foodbowl?
Urban sprawl is the expansion of cities into surrounding undeveloped areas.
Melbourne’s population is expected to reach 7 million by 2050, requiring 60% more food to sustain its residents.
PQE Method of Analysis.
Pattern - find a pattern or general trend in the data
Quantify - you need to quantify the pattern. Adding evidence to prove the pattern is correct
Exception - Find the exception to the pattern. It will be something hat doesn’t fit into the general trend of the pattern. You need to explain why this exception exists.
