Revision Y7 Flashcards
CHemistry (28 cards)
What is a atom?
The smallest part of a chemical element that can exist.
What is a compound?
It is a substance made up of atoms of two or more substances.
What is a element?
It is an substance that cannot be broken down into other substances.
What is a period?
A row of chemical elements in the Periodic Table.
What is a chemical change?
A change that makes new chemical substances.
What is oxidation?
A reaction where oxygen is added to a substance.
What element has one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms?
Carbon Dioxide.
Physical change?
A reversible change such as melting or boiling.
Eg.Water
What atoms are in carbon dioxide?
One carbon atom and two Oxygen atoms.
Name 5 elements in the Periodic Table.
Copper,Carbon ,Calcium, Aluminium and Chlorine.
What is the meaning of Combustion?
When fuels burn in chemical reactions.
What is the meaning of endothermic?
It is when a substance has turned cold.
What does exothermic mean?
When a substance has turned hot.
What is the reactant and product of Carbon Dioxide?
Carbon + Oxygen = Carbon dioxide
Reactant+Reactant = Product
What is a chemical reaction?
It is a change in which atoms are rearranged to create new substances.
How would you know if a solution is concentrated?
It will have more acids in it.
What does corrosive mean?
It will mean that it may burn skin and eyes.
An acid has a PH of…
less than 7.
An alkali has a PH of…
more than 7.
What PH would it be if it was neutral?
Exactly 7.
What is an universal indicator?
It is a mixture of dyes. It changes colour to show how acidic or alkaline it is.
Name three types of acids.
Lemon juice, Vinegar and Coke.
Name three types of alkaline.
Toothpaste, drain cleaner and milk of magnesia.
How do you know if it is a chemical reaction?
If it has foul stink or sweet smell, has sparks or big fire, if you hear a pop or fizz and if you feel it getting hotter or colder.
