Logos
An appeal based on logic and solid reasoning
ie-stats applied to topic
Ethos
Appeal based on philosophy, gives idea the speaker is credible
ie- person telling about their expertise
Pathos
Appeal based on emotion.
ie- starving little girl on ad
Ad Hominem
Attacks the person making the argument instead of their view
Paradox
An assertion that opposes common sense that holds some truth
Anaphora
Repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of a sentence or phrase
Appeal to ignorance
Saying a statement is true because it hasn’t been disproved
Non sequitur
When the logic doesn’t follow with the argument
Circular reasoning
Trying to support a statement by just repeating the conclusion differently
“Straw man”
Create false ideas of someone else’s ideas, beliefs or statements
Generalization
When someone says a claim applies to all instances
Syllogism
Logical argument where one or two laws are used to prove a conclusion
Faulty premise
Incorrect proposition that you base your logical argument on
Cherry picking evidence
Only focus on facts that support your argument

Repeating the word or phrase at the end of sentence or phrase

When several ideas are joined together closely together
