Q

Ao1 and Ao3 zero tolerance policing

A

AO1-
Police should focus on controlling the streets citizens who follow law feel safe.
This means being harsh on minor crimes such as begging and prostitution to create an environment where law and order are taken seriously.

AO3- marxist argue that the zero tolerance policing focuses more on low-level petty street crimes and ignores the crimes of the wealthy. This causes the police to selectively enforce law and the working-class are punished severely for their crime as it’s much more easier to observe than the cooperate crimes of the ruling class.

Q

Ao1 and Ao3 broken windows

A

AO1-
Wilson and Kelling’s argue we must keep neighbourhoods orderly to prevent crime taking place. This means any sign of deterioration for example, graffiti must be dealt with immediately to show that deviance is not tolerated. Furthermore, the police and the local government must ensure that any sign of these criminals or deviant behaviours are removed from local communities so that the neighbourhood is a Crime free zone. This causes individuals to reduce their criminal activity.

AO3- labelling theorists argue that the local communities and individuals are targeted based on typifications that the police have. This is seen from official police statistics which tell us that young black males are 7 times more likely to be stopped and searched compared to white males.
