Prior to turning onto the bay, what should you confirmed?

A
  1. Identify the correct aircraft parking bay position;
  2. Ensure that the aerobridge retraction light indicates green.

red indicates that the aerobridge is out of position and the pilot should not proceed with parking the aircraft.

When should Flight crew update the database of a new FMS Database cycle from Australia or US?

A

Australia………After 1600 day prior to new cycle

USA…………….. After 0900 first day of new cycle

Otherwise Flight crew should update the database if the departure time is after 0000 UTC on the first day of the new effective date range (departure in Europe)

Where a NOTAM generated by the State to increase an operating minima, and ist higher than the Qantas tailored minima, can it be ignored?

A

Where a NOTAM increases the operating minima and it is higher than the previous Qantas tailored minima then the higher minima published by the NOTAM shall be used until revised Qantas minima are appended to the NOTAM.

Where a NOTAM generated by the State lowers the operating minima, and its below the Qantas tailored minima, can it be applied?

A

Where a NOTAM reduces the operating minima (MDA(H) or visibility) and the NOTAM has not been appended with revised Qantas minima, then the old (higher) Qantas minima shall be used.

Q

Route Operations……Lateral Offset Procedures

Can you be offset at the entry or exit point of a FIR?

A

Aircraft should arrive at the FIR boundary or oceanic entry point on the airway centre line

Aircraft should be back on airway centre line by the FIR boundary or oceanic exit point

Q

Route Operations

What is the simplest explanation of the formula to compute the windshear on the OFP?

A

the vector difference in the wind speeds above and below the planned level, divided in two and expressed in knots.

17
Q

Flight Planning & Pre flight

The winds released by the UK and USA World Area Forecast Centre’s (WAFC) at 0001, 0600, 1200 and 1800 are received and updated into constellation system at 0330, 0930, 1530 and 2130.

When should you request the winds to update the FMS?

A

allow approximately 45 minutes after these times, therefore 0415, 1015, 1615 and 2215

18
Q

Flight Planning and Preflight

What display do you get when you print the NAVLOG after being DARPED?

A

The DARP NAVLOG section displays the track, distance and safety height as TOWARDS the waypoint adjacent to it. When an aircraft is DARPed and the NAVLOG is printed, the received NAVLOG corresponds to the DARP/BACKUP NAVLOG methodology.

19
Q

Flight Planning and Preflight

Where can you find a backup to the OFP if EFF is down?

A

qplans.qantas.com.au
Username: crew
Password: qpilot2013

The data is held for six hours after the STD then automatically deleted.

20
Q

Flight Planning and Preflight

When dealt with a Fast Operational flight plan Singapore to Europe, what is the recommended way to lose time?

A

flights should plan to depart on schedule and lose time enroute to accommodate curfew or slot restrictions. Note that 30–40 minutes can be lost enroute to London if required by,

once west of Afghanistan, descending to 4,000 ft below optimum and reducing to Holding Speed. This will have minimal effect on fuel remaining at destination

21
Q

Flight Planning and Preflight

The Altimetry correction chart represents what altitude?

A

The data in the altimetry chart (accessible via the EFF> WX Brief) is based on the 500 hPa standard pressure level which in ISA has a height of 18,288 ft,

The chart is updated every 3 hours.

22
Q

Flight Planning and Preflight

If a Solar Flare Activity Warning is received by flight dispatch, what can you do to help mitigate it?

A

> Do not proceed into latitudes higher than 60°, or

> Cruise at or below FL280.

23
Q

Communication

If the PDC has not been received by 15 minutes prior to the SDT, Flight Crew should request a PDC via what?

A
  1. Select the ‘WX REQUEST’ page on the ACARS (as per applicable aircraft type);
  2. Select ‘ACTUAL’ or ‘METAR’;
  3. Enter ‘PDC’ into the field display (do not enter any other stations);
  4. Activate the ‘SEND’ key;
  5. The PDC will be received as an ‘UPLINK MESSAGE’
24
Q

Communication

How can you get a Volcanic update?

A

From the weather request page

Volcanic Reports:

Enter IVOL on the ACTUAL line.

25
Q

Communications

What is the frequency for RFF in Australia?

A

131.0, call sign “ Fire Commander “

26
Q

Communication

What is the frequency and callsign for RFF in London and Singapore?

A

Heathrow Fire. 121.600

Fire Commander 121.850 for SIN

27
Q

Communication

CPDLC

when you are connected to CPDLC and you are requiring to go off track, say due weather, what must you do in the FMS?

A

Route offsets:

Airbus aircraft – If flying off-track more than 7 nm, a route offset must be built to keep the aircraft within 7 nm of the new track, otherwise the FMS will not sequence passed waypoints and CPDLC and/or ADS reports may be incorrect.

28
Q

Communication

CPDLC

What is a golden rule whilst under CPDLC and you want to run some “what if “ scenarios on the FMS?

A

Use caution in performing ‘what if’ computations in the FMC. If these include a change to either the next waypoint or the next +1 waypoint and is executed, an ADS report is automatically generated and may give erroneous information to ATC.

I Do not execute ‘what if’ calculations in an ADS environment. Similarly, do not change the FCU/AFS CP Altitude away from the cleared altitude, as this will also trigger an automatic report to ATC.

It is advisable to perform ‘what if’ calculations in the SEC F-PLN and not the active F-PLN.

29
Q

Communication

If internet connectivity or ACARS is not available, the provisional loadsheet and NOTOC can be hand delivered to the aircraft by ground staff. Do you need to sign the provisional?

A

A signed copy must then be left at point of departure. The final loadsheet will also be hand delivered to the aircraft.

30
Q

Volcano

In an IVOL report, Pre-eruption volcanoes that are a possible eruption or including probability of an eruption occurring with LOW or HIGH description, what does the LOW/HIGH risk mean?

A

LOW risk – mitigating action will be 30 NM avoidance of volcano; HIGH risk – mitigating action will be 30 NM upwind/80 NM downwind avoidance of volcano.

31
Q

Security

When must the Flight Deck door be closed during pre-flight.

A

The flight deck door may remain open, or closed and unlocked, until the final passenger door is closed prior to departure.
