1
Q

State the components of RNA

A
  • A single stranded polynucleotide
  • pentose sugar ribose

Q

What is mRNA function and where is it made

A
  • messenger RNA
  • synthesised in the nucleus
  • carries genetic code from the DNA to the ribosomes in the cytoplasm
Different mRNA have different lengths related to the lengths of the gene from which they are transcribed

Q

What is rRNA where is it made and what is its function

A
  • ribosomal rRNA
  • found in the cytoplasm
  • comprises large complex molecules
  • made up of rRNA and protein
  • the site of translation of the genetic code into protein

Q

What is tRNA

A
  • transfer RNA
  • small single stranded molecule
  • folds so in places there are base sequences forming complementary pairs
  • 3’ end of the molecule has the base seq CCA where the specific amino acid the molecule carries is attached
  • it also carries a seq of three cases called the anticodon at the bottom of the molecule
  • function - transport specific amino acids to the ribosome in protein synthesis .
