RNA Flashcards

1
Q

structural differences between dna and rna (6)

A
  • dna is long and forms a double helix, whereas rna is short, straight and single stranded
  • rna has ribose as a sugar whereas dna has deoxyribose
  • rna has uricil (u) instead of thymine (t)
  • dna is located in the nucleus, chloroplast and mitochondria whereas rna is located in the nucleus and cytoplasm
  • dna is in the form of chromatin whereas rna is in the form of mrna, trna and rrna
  • dna is a fairly stable molecule whereas rna is a very unstable molecule

Q

the types, structure and location of rna: messenger rna (mrna)

Q

the types, structure and location of rna: ribosomal rna (rrna)

A

ribosomes are essential for protein synthesis. they are found free in the cytoplasm or attached to the tubules of the rough endoplasmic reticulum
