Difference between rocks and minerals:
Minerals are compounds, rocks are mixtures made of minerals.
The three types of rocks:
Igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary
How are igneous rocks formed?
Igneous rocks are formed when lava cools up and hardens into a solid.
Another name for igneous rocks:
Rocks of fire
The two types of igneous rocks:
Intrusive and extrusive
Difference between intrusive and extrusive rocks:
Intrusive rocks are rocks that are solidified underground and and cool slowly to produce coarse-grained rocks.
Extrusive rocks are rocks that are solidified above ground and cool quickly to produce a fine-grained rock.
How are sedimentary rocks formed?
Sedimentary rocks are formed when bits of sediment(rocks and minerals eg. Sand, shell) are packed together and solidified to create a sedimentary rock.
How are metamorphic rocks formed?
Metamorphic rocks are formed by igneous or sedimentary rocks that have been transformed by heat, pressure or both.
