Q

What is the difference between a major and a minor chord?

A

The difference between a major and minor chord is either: 1). A major chord sounds ‘happy’ and a minor chord sounds ‘sad’ OR 2). A major chord consists of a 1st, 3rd and 5th degree of a major scale, while a minor chord is made from the 1st, flatted 3rd and 5th degrees of a major scale.

Q

Where is the; nut, bridge, pick-ups (or sound hole) and frets on your guitar?

A

These components are: 1). The nut, generally a white or black component just under the head of your guitar on the fretboard, which the strings lay across. 2). The bridge, a metal or wood component at the opposite end of the strings (body of the guitar), where the strings are fixed into place. 3). The pick-ups are the 1, 2 or 3 components on the body of the guitar that sit underneath your strings. These are typically single coil, dual coil or humbucker and they pick up the sound and produce it through an amplifier. These aren’t found on an ordinary acoustic guitar (unless it’s a semi-acoustic).
