whats a role in a group?
The part played by somebody in a given social context. It is
the set of responsibilities that are based on their involvement in the
group
whats a leader in a group?
An individual who guides or directs others by showing them
the way.
why do group members take on roles?
To ensure tasks are
achieved
To maintain/build
relationships
To influence the group’s
progress
Role 1:
Task orientated
Members are concerned with completing the task within a specific time.
Role 2:
Socioemotional
Members are concerned with the wellbeing of the group. They
work at catering to their needs.
Role 3:
Destructive
Members work at diverting attention from the task so that goals are either not achieved or at a lower level.
Can be positive or negative
E.G class clown
What are norms?
Norms are established by the group members and guide them on how to behave, or how not to behave, in different situations.
Whats conformity?
The way that group members follow the norms.
Conforming signals dedication to the group. It will depend on the members values and standards
Whats cohesiveness?
Strength by which the group is
held together.
Its unity; state of sticking together or having consistency
