1865-1877 US wanted to reintegrate the contferdate states and newly freed slaves into the union. Healing era after the civil war, difficult for the south to build a new system without slaves

1929-1941 25% of the population was jobless, the stock market crashed creating the Great Depression, everyone moved to the west (California)
Racial Segregation
Late 19th century- 1960, colored people and white people separated, different schools, bathrooms, buses, and baised opions.
Jim Crow Laws
illegal for blacks and whites to have fun with each other, after these laws segregation and discrimination was spread across the south United States
The First Great Migration from the South
1910- 1940 had black people move to the midwestern and west states, when people moved everything was better for African Americans
