ROM Flashcards
(10 cards)
basic techniques used for the examination of movement
range of motion
distance a muscle is capable of shortening after it has been elongated to its maximum
functional excursion
two jointed muscle contracts and can shorten no more
active and insufficiency
two jointed muscle fully elongated
passive insufficiency
mid-portion of functional excursion
ideal length-tension relationship
is a type of ROM exercise that is produced entirely by an external force; little to no voluntary ms contraction
Passive ROM (PROM)
is a type of ROM exercise that is produced by active contraction of the muscles crossing that joint
Active ROM (AROM)
is a type of ROM exercise wherein assistance is provided manually or mechanically by an outside force because the primer mover needs assistance
Active-Assistive ROM (A-AROM)
give indication for PROM
- acute
- patients who are comatose, paralysed, bed rest
- determine limitation of motion
- demonstrate active exercise program
- used preceding the passive stretching technique
give goals for ROM
- decrease complication that would occur with immobilization
- maintain joint and connective tissue mobility
- minimize the effects of the formation of contractures
- maintain mechanical elasticity of muscle
- decrease of inhibit pain
- assist circulation and vascular dynamics
