According to Document 3, Rome was able to gain power by conquering Carthage and this helped them because they had more territory and more power. According to Document 3, Rome was able to maintain power by scaring and intimidating the civilizations with it’s size and power and this helped them because they had conquered lands such as Carthage, which helped them look bigger and they had more control.
Would you consider the Pax Romana to be a time of peace? (name and explain two reasons)
The Pax Romana was not a time of peace because there was a lot of violence. Many people were killed in gladiator games just for entertainment. Also, strict rules made life hard, like not being allowed to laugh or be with family during mourning times.
What kind of leader was Augustus Caesar? (choose an adjective and provide two examples to support your claim)
Augustus Caesar was dignified. He wrote about his own accomplishments and only included the good things he did. Also, he made sure that no one refered to him as “king” so he wouldn’t seem greedy for that role. This shows that he worked hard to protect his reputation and control how others saw him.
Explain how two Roman achievements impacted later civilizations, like today:
Architecture: The Romans built strong roads that helped with travel and trade, which inspired today’s highways. They also created arches and aqueducts to carry water and support buildings, some of which are still standing. Romans even had apartment buildings with running water, similar to modern apartments.
Science: The Romans created sanitation systems like sewers, public toilets, and bathhouses to keep cities clean and people healthy.
