Rutter et al procedures
Followed a group of 165 Romanian orphans
111 had been adopted before 2 years
54 were adopted before 4 years
Assessed orphans** from childhood to adulthood** compared to control group of ‘normal children
assessed at 4, 6, 11, 15, 22-25
Rutter et al findings
Adoptees shown signs of intellectual delay with ‘quasiautism’ (mean IQ of adopted after 6 months was 86, after 2 years was 77) and a disinhibited attachment type
Zeanah et al procedures
Measured the attachment type of 95 Romanian orphans ages 12 to 31 months using the strange situation and compared with a control group
Zeanah et al findings
19% secure orphans
74% secure in control
44% disinhibited attachment
less than 20% disinhibited attachment in control
