2
Q

In internal inflammatory resorption what is the Pathogenesis

A

The coronal pulp is necrotic, the apical pulp is vital

4
Q

Radiographically how would we see internal inflammatory resorption

A

It would be a ballon shape centered in the canal - it does not move with a beam shift

6
Q

Inflammatory replacement resorption is something rare to see however when it is seen how may it look radiogrpahically

A

Trabeular pattern in the pulp as the pulp is being replaced by something mineralised

7
Q

What is root resorption

A

It is the non bactericidal destruction of dental hard and soft tissues due to the interaction of clastic cells

Q

What may be one problem with orthograde endodontic treatment in a tooth with external inflammatory resorption

A

Due to the resorption of the root it may be difficult to get a good apical seal

11
Q

The aetiology for external cervical root resorption can be completely incidental - what is our treamtent options for this

A

If we are to monitor - resorption will likely continue

Extraction and prosthesis replacement

Internal repair and orthograde endodontic

Q

Radiographically what would you see for a tooth that has external surface resorption

A

The PDL will be intact and then were be no PAP

Q

You examining a radiograph and notice root resorption around the the upper central’s - there is no PAP and the PDL is intact , what is the most likely cause of this persons resorption

A

Orthodontic treatment

This is external surface resorption

15
Q

What is the treatment for surface external resorption

A

The pulp is healthy endo will have no effect
Remove the cause of the resorption to stop it

16
Q

What teeth in orthodontic treatment are usually worse affected by resorption

A

The teeth used for anchorage

17
Q

Clinically what things may you observe on a tooth with external surface resorption

A

The tooth may have some mobility
And there will be a positive sensibly test

18
Q

How may a tooth with external replacement resorption present

A

Infraocclusion

19
Q

A tooth with external replacement resorption will not be TTP but what may you notice on tapping it

A

High pitched note

20
Q

Why does external replacement resorption happen

A

Trauma

Significant injury to periodontium such that osteoclasts are now in contact with the root dentine and they resorb it

21
Q

Why does external cervical root resorption not tend to affec the pulp

A

As the predentine protects it

22
Q

In a patient with external replacement resorption what treamtent do we dp

A

Decoronate the tooth
Remove the crown to alveolar level and allow the root to resorb
This protects bone volume
Adjacent teeth and periodontium developed normally
Tooth replacement then wiht RBB or RPD
