Prefix
Word part added to the beginning of a word to create a new word, modifies meaning of root word (ex. number, location, time, status)
Root word
Word part that gives essential meaning of the word
Suffix
Word part added to end of word to give it a new meaning, usually indicates procedure, condition, disease, disorder
Combining vowel
Single vowel added to end of root word to make it easier to pronounce, links root to suffix or another root
