From Rosh Chodesh Elul to Yom Kippur
Historically, when did Elul become a special time for forgiveness?
Moshe Rabbeinu achieved forgiveness for the sin of the golden calf and went to get the second Luchot during this time period.
Why is this time period called ימי רצון?
Hashem is particularly close to us during this time and it is easier to do teshuvah.

What does the word אלול stand for?
אני לדודי ודודי לי I am close to Hashem and Hashem is close to me.

- Blowing the Shofar every day

What is the difference between the Ashkenazim and Sepharadim regarding when to start Selichot?
Sephardim say selichot the entire month of Elul, Ahskenazim say it the week before Rosh Hashanah.
Why do we not blow the Shofar on Erev Rosh Hashanah?
To separate between the Shofar blowing that is a custom and the shofar blowing that is a mitzvah.

To do hatarat nedarim, annulment of vows.

Why do we try to say Shehechiyanu on a new fruit on the second night of Rosh Hashanah?
There is a machloket amongst the Rabbis whether Rosh Hashanah is one long day or two separate days. if it is one long day, then we do not need to say Shehechiyanu, and if it is 2 days, then we do. To resolve the conflict, we say the Shehechiyanu on the new fruit and have the day in mind.
