use a pippette to drop some water onto the microscope slide
peel one of the thin layers of onion of the surface of your piece of onion using forceps and put on water on microscope slide
make sure the onion lies flat
put two drops of iodine solution onto the onion tissue
carefully put the coverslip onto the slide and soak any liquid from around the edge of the coverslip
put under a microscope and turn the nosepiece onto the lowest objective lens
