Three steps when doing in your own words/summarising questions
Check the question for:
a. the focus of the question
b. the line reference
c. how many points to make (the number of marks)
Extra: find the easiest phrase to rephrase
What does WIST stand for?
Word choice, Imagery, Sentence Structure, Tone
Structure for analysing word choice
Quote, denotation, connotations
Make sure to check the whole paragraph, look for the best answer
Structure for analysing language
Language = WIST generally
Quote, literal meaning, imagery
Imagery can be replaced with other parts of WIST
Structure for linking questions
- Look for a phrase that links back
- Explain/summarise the idea it links back to - IN YOUR OWN WORDS
- Repeat for a link forward
