rubber dam Flashcards
(14 cards)
what are the benefits of rubber dam?
dry field, access and visibility, improved properties of dental materials, protection of patient and operator, operating efficiency
what are other methods of tooth isolation?
absorbents, saliva ejectors, high volume evacuators, retraction cord.
what are the disadvantages of rubber dam isolation?
time consumption, patient discomfort, difficult use, precluded use in some systemic conditions like asthma, epilepsy, nose obstruction.
what is the purpose of the clapm?
anchors the dam to the most posterior tooth to be isolated, retracts gingiva
name the clamp types: anterior teeth?
butterfly for anterior teeth,
what clamp is used for gingival tissue retraction?
B4
how many teeth need to be isolated for restorative work ususally?
minimum 3 , 1 tooth posterior one ant to the operated tooth but the general rule is 4 teeth i.e. 1 posterior 2 anterior to the tooth.
what if we cant achieve anterior stabilisation with wedges?
we do two clamp stabalisation- which is the only situation when bow is placed mesially.
guidelines for the range of teeth for anterior?
first premolar to first premolar
alternative guidelines for range of teeth for canine?
first molar to opposite lateral incisor
guidelines for premolar isolation?
2 teeth distally, to opposite lateral incisor
guidelines for molar teeth isolation?
as far distal as possible to lateral incisor
what are the consequences of prongs being positioned too distal or too mesial?
interference with matrix and wedge placement, gingival trauma, may not achieve complete seal of the anchor tooth
