Excessive timeout penalty
Timeout is granted and technical foul is charged (1 shot and the ball POI)
Delay of game shall be called for:
- Preventing the ball from being put in play
- Interfering with the ball after a FGM
- Failure to pass to nearest official
- Touching the ball before the throw-in is released
- Defender breaking the boundary line
- A team preventing play from commencing
- Player entering game with shirt untucked
Delay of Game Penalty
1st - Warning
After - technical foul charged to team (shot clock stays the same or reset to 14 and a new 8s if offense is in backcourt, IF, charged to defense)
Delay of Game exception (last 2 min of 4th and OT)
Technical foul if defender breaks the boundary plane (12A-2 exc)
If the ball is put into play and remains in play with one team having six or more players on the court
Non-unsportsmanlike technical
- 1 FTA and throw-in at POI

A defensive player hanging on the rim, backboard, net, or support to interfere with ball is

A technical foul can be assessed without warning by the official

- Disrespectfully addressing and official
- Physically contacting and official
- Overt actions indicating resentment to a call or no call
- Use of profanity
- A coach entering onto the court without permission of an official
- A deliberately thrown elbow or any unnatural physical act toward an opponent with no contact involved
- Taunting

A player in the game when the T was assessed
If a T is assessed before the starting lineup is in the book
Any player may attempt the FT (s)
No FTA (s) for
Double technical fouls
If a defensive player who is ahead of a player who he fouls anytime after the offensive player enters front court (even if fouled from the side or behind)
No clear-path foul has occurred
Penalty for a clear-path-to-the-basket
- 2 free throw attempts
- throw-in nearest spot of POI on sideline
Criteria for clear-path-to-basket
ball and offensive player must be positioned between the tip of circle extended in the back-court and the basket in the front-court, with no defender between the ball and basket when the personal foul occurs
If there is at least a 2 on 1 adv on fast break and the defensive player takes a foul to stop play
2 free throw attempts
A dribble shall not (3)
- Charge into a defender who has established legal guarding position
- Attempt to dribble between two opponents
- Attempt to ‘squeeze’ between an opponent and boundary line where there is no space that illegal contact can be avoided
A legal screen must allow (2)
- a normal step for opponent
