Dead ball
A ball that is not in play, the ball is dead in between downs
Live ball
A ball that is in play while the down is in progress - legally snapped or free kicked
Loose ball
Pass, fumble, or kick - ball is loose until another player gains possession of it
Closed or cupped hand technique block
- elbows may be inside or outside the shoulder
- hands are closed or cupped
- forearms extended
Open hand technique
Hands need to be inside the frame of both blocker and defender
Hands should be in advance of the elbow
Block above Bs shoulder
Illegal
Block below the waist
Initial contact below waist from the front / side of a non-runner, this includes contact w/ an opponents hands when they are below the waist
Both feet must also be grounded
Chop block
Combo block with or without delay; 1 goes low 1 goes high
Blindside block
Block of a non-runner, where they do not see the blocker coming
Interlocked blocking
Player grabs or encircles a teammate prior to blocking an opponent
