Kickoff 1: How do you have to be (what position)

A

Head must be against the lane line, if not a lineline pool you must be ready to push of wall with hand on gutter

Kickoff 2: What happens when referee blows the whistle?

A

Referee will blow whistle and drop ball in the middle, 1 or 5 will sprint for ball, teammate 2 or 4 will trail. Everyone else will get into formation

Putting the ball in play: After every stoppage (when whistle is blown) the ball needs to be put in play. How?

A

To put ball into play, pop ball up (those ball up to yourself) or pass to a teammate

A

when fouled within 6m line, ball must be put into play by popping and passed before a shot is attempted; when fouled outside the 6m line, a shot can be taken without a pass before hand

Denying the opponent of a clear goal scoring opportunity (fouling from behind when someone is shooting on an open goal)
Not stepping back after committing an ordinary foul

What happens when there is an ordinary foul?

A

ref will blow whistle once
Person who committed foul must take one step back and be around an arm’s length from offensive player (failure to do so will result in exclusion)
Offender can tussle with opponent after they put the ball into play (regular defense)
Fouls committed by offensive players will result in a turn over

What happens during an exclusion?

A

also known as an ejection or kick out
Each player can make 2 exclusion worthy fouls without being kicked out (kind of like being red carded) of the game.
3 exclusions and you are out

What to do during an exclusion

A

What to do when you are excluded:
swim to designated penalty area (will be near team bench)
wait for 20 seconds or until the team regains possession
The scoring desk will waive a flag when you are allowed back in. DO NOT PUSH OFF the WALL WHEN COMING BACK IN, YOU WILL BE GIVEN ANOTHER EXCLUSION

What makes a turnover happen?

A

When you shoot inside the 6 meter line after being fouled
Not popping ball before moving in, or taking too long to pop the ball (you have 5-7 seconds p)
Touching ball with 2 hands
Offensive fouls
Ball under (when you push ball below surface of the water or opponent pushes your hand and the ball under the surface)
Miscommunication when passing, passing to opponents
When on offense, going 30 seconds without taking a shot that is blocked by the goalie

30 second shot clock

A

water polo has a 30 second shot clock
Every offensive play can take a maximum of 30 seconds
Changes in possession RESET the shot clock
A blocked shot tipped out by the goalie also resets the shot clock
