what is the probability of new drivers to cause crashes ?
New drivers are 3 times more likely to cause a crash
How long will it take for a person below 21 years to get a licence ?
If below 21:
Min 1 year for P1 licence
Min 3 years for P2 licence
so a total of 4 years min for a P1 and P2 before they can get a full licence
How long will it take for a person above21 years to get a licence ?
Above 21 years you start directly with a P2 :
A minimum of 3 years on P2 to get permanent licence.
How much BAC is allowed ?
For L and P 0 BAC allowed.
For a Permanent Licence holder a BAC of less than 0.05 is allowed.
Who can use a mobile ?
L and P holders cannot use a mobile under any circumstance. Not even a hands free.
Full licence can use mobile - ONLY hands free
On a P1 how many people can you carry ?
Only 1 person between the age of 16 - 22 years.
what are the fines for not wearing seatbelts ?
Driver fined if not wearing.
Co passengers fined if greater than 16 years .
In a car having ABS in an emergency what should you do ?
Keep form pressure on the brakes.
How much distance should you keep with the vehicle in front ?
You should keep a minimumm distance of 2 seconds with vehicle in front.
Define headcheck ?
Looking at both your rearview mirrors without losing sight of road ahead less than 1 second
what are the rules of Plates for L and P ?
L - display black L in Yellow background.
P1 - display white P in Red Background
P2 - display white P in Green Background
Plates must be visible at a distance of 20 metres.
How many demerit points can a person have ?
P2 cannot have more than 5 demerit points in a year.
In full licence if within a year you have more than 5 demerit points and more than 11 in 3 years licence can be suspended for 3 years
what are alcohol penalties ?
L and P less than 0.05 3 month suspension
L and P less than 0.1 6 month suspension
Full licence and age less than 26 with BAC less than 0.1 6 months
All licence greater than 0.1 cancellation and interlock
what are the rules for children ?
Child less than 6 months : rear facing , child restraint with harness.
Child between 6 m and 4 y : rear or front facing , child restraint with harness.
Child between 4 and 7 years : forward facing , child restraint with harness OR Booster with seat belt.
Between 7 and 16 years : seat belt
when can a child sit in the front seat ?
If child below 4 years not allowed in front seat.
Children between 4 and 7 only allowed if all back seat is occupied by children below 7 years.
what are the speed limits ?
Built up areas is 50 kmhr
Freeways outside of built up areas is 100 kmhr
what is the speed limit in Shared zones ?
Shared zones have a max speed limit of 10 kmhr
how soon can you stop ?
If at 60 kmhr you will cover 67 metres.
If at 100 kmhr you will cover 142 metres.
what are the rules of lines ?
Broken - can cross to enter leave road , overtake , u turn
Continuous - ONLY cross to enter or leave road.
Double continuous - NOTHING allowed.
Two lines mine broken - same as single broken
Two lines mine continuous 2nd broken - can leave road
what are the rules of parking ?
You can only park in case of a continuous line - if there is a distance of 3 metres.
Special purpose lanes rules ?
Do not travel in these lanes.
Can travel to change direction or avoid obstruction.
Max distance 50 metres in bicyle and tram lane
Max distance 100m in bus lane.
what are the rules of indicators ?
while merging must show a minimum of 5 seconds.
On 60 kmhr while changing must show for atleast 30 m
what are the rules of headlights ?
if on coming vehicle is at 200 m use dipper
If following vehicle if less than 200 m use dipper
rules for parking ?
can remain in no parking for max 2 minutes.
you must be within 3 metres of the car.
You cannot stop when there are yellow continuous signs.
A min of 1m distance between vehicle in front and back.
Must not stop / park within 20 metres of:
intersection , bus stop , childrens crossing , level crossing , tram
