kitchen

how long a team can keep serving
Both players on the serving doubles team have the opportunity to serve and score points until they each commit a fault (except for the first service sequence of each new game–one fault for team while the first server is serving leads to a side out).
side out
when the serving team loses a rally, resulting in the serve passing to their opponents.
Which side of the court is the first serve made on after a side-out?
right side, just as for the first serve of the game
When do the players on a team switch sides?
If a point is scored, the server switches sides and the server initiates the next serve from the other half of the court.
When does the other player on a team get to serve?
When that team commits a fault, the serve switches to the partner, who serves from his side of the court ( (except for the first service sequence of the game).
How long does the second server on a team serve?
Until his team commits a fault (for a total of two for that team). Then the team loses the serve to the opposing team.
What’s special about the beginning of each new game?
Only one partner on the serving team has the opportunity to serve before faulting, after which the service passes to the receiving team.
How many points to win a game.
Normally 11, with a win by 2.
What is the “two-bounce rule”?
When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce before returning, and then the serving team must let it bounce before returning, thus two bounces.
After the ball has bounced once in each team’s court, both teams may either volley the ball (hit the ball before it bounces) or play it off a bounce (ground stroke).
When can a player be in the “kitchen”?
Any time other than when volleying a ball
How close to the kitchen can you be in order to get a fault when volleying the ball?
Stepping on the line will even cause a fault
Is it okay to contact the kitchen line when serving?
No. That’s considered “short” – a fault.
When rallying, is it okay to contact a boundary line?
Yes. It’s still considered “in.”
How does a team get a point?
They must be the serving team, and the other receiving team must commit a fault.
What happens when the serving team commits a fault?
After one fault, the serve goes to the partner. After two faults for the team, it’s a side out.
Is hitting the ball out-of-bounds a fault?
Yes
Is hitting the ball into the net a fault (whether in serving or receiving)?
Yes
Is volleying the ball before it’s bounced on both sides of the net a fault?
Yes
Is volleying the ball from the kitchen a fault?
Yes
Volley
hitting the ball in the air, before it bounces
