S2 Neuro Test 2 Flashcards
(16 cards)
Spinal Trigeminal Nucleus location and roll
Caudal Medulla,PICA; IX gag reflex, posterior 1/3 tongue
Nucleus Ambiguus
Medullary RF; PICA; IX (swallowing), X (Swallowing), XI cranial component (laryngeal sound production. W/ loss of X LMN, uvula swings to side opposite lesion.
Solitary Nucleus
Medulla; PICA; X (pain/temp pharynx, larynx, thoracic.. also, chemo/baro for aortic), IX (carotid), VII (anterior 2/3 tongue)
Motor nucleus of V
Pons; V (ipsilateral muscles of mastication, tensor tympani)
Facial motor nucleus
caudal pons; long circumferential; VII (muscles of facial expression, stapedius… LMN lesion=bells palsy, UMN=loss contralateral lower face).
Mesencephalic nucleus of V
pons; long circumferential; proprioception anterior 2/3 face
trochlear nucleus
inf colliculus midbrain; superior oblique - inability to look down
edinger westphal nucleus
midbrain; III; pupil constriction, lesion causes dilation
oculomotor nucleus
Midbrain; III - medial rectus and levator palpebrae superior; lesion causes drooping eyelid, dilation of pupil, unopposed abduction
spinal trigeminal nucleus
caudal medulla;PICA ; V - pain/temp of face;; IX-posterior 1/3 tongue, pharynx (gag)
hypoglossal nucleus
Caudual medulla; ant spinal A; LMN-tongue towards lesion+atrophy; UMN-tongue points away from lesion
nucleus gracilis
caudal medulla; post spinal A; touch and proprioception ipsilateral lower body
nucleus cuneatus
caudal medulla; post spinal A; touch and proprioception ipsilateral upper body
vestibular nuclei
Rostral Medulla; PICA; VIII-proprioception head and balance; lesion=vertigo
Dorsal/ventral cochlear nuclei
Rostral Medulla; PICA; auditory, lesion of both nuclei=ipsilateral deafness? unilateral lesion=no deafness but loss of ability to localize sound, *acoustic neuroma=tumor=tinnitus, change in perception of head iposition,
Dorsal motor nucleus of X
Rostral Medulla; cardiovascular, resp,GI control; lesion=gut reflexes and ulcers
