What is a mucocele caused by?
Break in ductal system due to trauma
What is present with mucin + granulation tissue?
Mucocele

Ranula
Where are ranulas found?
ONLY on sublingual gland (under tongue)
What is a sialolith?
Saliva gets calcified, turns into stone and blocks mucous from exiting duct
Where are sialoliths located?
Whartons duct (connects submandibular with sublingual gland)
What can pus coming out of an area indicate?
Somewhere nearby is a salivary stone
How can you see a sialolith?
Occlusal radiograph
What is the dx if pt comes in and says
“oh nooo a part of my mouth plopped out?”
Necrotizing sialometaplasia
What is necrotizing sialometaplasia characterized as?
Area of ulceration
What are symptoms of Sjogren’s?
Autoimmune
Dry mouth, dry eyes
Bilateral enlargement of parotid gland
How do you diagnose sjogrens?
Lower lip biopsy, should have lymphoid clusters
Certain amount of clusters = sjogrens
What is the most common benign salivary gland tumor?
Pleomorphic adenoma
Where are monomorphic adenomas found?
Upper lip
What gland is involved with papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum?
Parotid gland (95%)
What are characteristics of Papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum?
Parotid
Bilateral
Middle aged MALES
Smoking
What is the second most common benign salivary gland neoplasm?
Papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum
What is oncocytoma?
Rare neoplasm
What is this?
Monomorphic adenoma
