Sampling Flashcards
(10 cards)
SRS positives
free of bias, easy + cheap for small samples
SRS negatives
sampling frame needed, too expensive + time-consuming if sample size is too large
Systematic positives
simple and quick, suitable for large samples
Systematic negatives
sampling frame needed, if frame is not random there may be bias
Stratified positives
accurately reflects population structure, guarantees proportional representation of groups within population
Stratified negatives
population must be clearly classified into distinct strata, selection within strata has same negs as SRS
Quota positives
small sample can still represent population, easy + cheap + no sampling frame needed, allows comparison between groups within population
Quota negatives
division into groups may be inaccurate, non-random so may introduce bias
Opportunity positives
easy, efficient, cheap
Opportunity negatives
unlikely to provide a representative sample, non-random may mean bias
