(29 cards)
What checklist do you call for on overland SAR?
Landing checklist / Hoisting operations checklist
Trail Line Assembly
-How long is the line
Shot bag weighs how much
What about the link
What type of Strap
Any Hand protection.
120’ with 5 lb shot bag; a weak link, V-strap and trail line Gloves.
controls and guides rescue equipment to the desired location; can use two at once; mandatory use with litter to keep parallel to longitudinal axis of helo
MK-58
Burn Time
How high may flame rise
Should I deploy upwind of survior
When should we not put these in the water
45 minute burn time;
deployed >50’
Nope, can hurt the surviors throat and noes
If Fuel is in the area, might light it off by mistake
Mk-25
Burn Time
Shall NOT do what with this smoke in particular?
10-20 Minute burn time
WARNING: SHALL NOT be launched while in hover because of valve plug possibly striking aircraft or personnel.
What should be done with the protective and arming caps of MK-25?
Both the protective and arming caps should be kept until marker is deployed. If marker is not deployed, resafe the marker.
What are the seven things in your vest?
Radio, LPU, SEBD, Knife, Mirror, Smoke, Sidewinder
What is the radio called in our Vest?
PRC-17A?
What is a quick splice?
Hook has been intentionally / unintentionally severed from the hoist cable and quick splice affords opportunity to fit severed hoist cable with new hook; does not affect weight requirements; 10s setup
What are the night / IMC procedures?
Shall be deployed via hoist; Rescue swimmer (via 4” Chemlight on mask), hook, and strop shall be illuminated.
What are the short haul limits?
3-50 (SAR) 30’ no faster thansafe single eng
40 KIAS / 30’ above highest obstacle / 20 AOB
What is the minimum SAR equipment?
SAR Curtain contents, Rescue Hook, SAR Bag contents, Trail Line, Litter
What is in the SAR Bag?
3x cranials, 3x LPUs 2x wool blankets 1x Level A
What is the hover altitude?
40-90’
What is included in the SAR curtain?
Crewman safety belts (x3), cable grip (middle left), Chem lights (6x regular, 6x high intensity), Chemlight straps (x4), hoist glove (middle right), rescue litter sling (bottom left), quick splice (bottom middle),cable cutter (bottom right)
What is the max pax with single aux?
7 (3 fwd / 4 aft)
What are considerations for an ejection rescue?
Litter use (spinal injury); parachute drift, fuel in water
What is a cable grip / what weight is it cable of supporting?
2 jaws that open and close onto a cable, and a shackle which enables the cable grip to be attached to safety belt to take weight of hoist load off hoist brake assembly during hoist failure; Can support 1000 lbs
What is the minimum distance from parachute in water?
1 rotor diameter
When is it recommended that swimmer be deployed on the hoist? Think Douglas
Douglas > 3
When can you forego the wind line rescue?
Nighttime with visible horizon and necessary to maintain sight of survivor
How do you deploy the trail line?
One arm raised with open palm fingers extended, while moving the opposite hand laterally from side to side behind open palm
What to do if in trouble and need assistance?
Vigorous waving of one arm (blue light at night)
What are the hoist speeds?
0-215 eastern, 0-250 western, 100 fpm cockpit, 85 fpm backup, 50 fpm on limiters (w/in 10’ of full up / 5’ full down)
What are the 5 overland SAR techniques?
Landing to affect a rescue. Hoisting, Rappelling, Direct Deploymentm, 1/2 Wheel Landing
