When can a hair and scalp treatment be given?
Before or after a shampoo
Hint: “when can” emphasizes there is more than one
Which fungus causes dandruff?
Malassezia
Hint: malassezia sounds like a mess which dandruff is a mess in your hair
Anit-dandruff shampoos, conditioners, and topical lotions contain what?
Antifungal agents
Hint: ANTI-dandruff, ANTI-fungal
How do antifungal agents control dandruff?
By suppressing the growth of malassezia
Hint: to control something you stop whatever causes it
What are the 5 benefits of brushing the hair?
- Stimulates blood circulation to scalp
- Gives hair added shine
- Gives stylist time to check for abrasions or infections
- Include in every shampoo
- Removes dust, dirt, and build up

What are the 2 exceptions to brushing the hair/scalp?
- prior to a chemical service
- abrasions are present
Hint: don’t ruin the brush dont ruin the abrasions!
Which brushes are recommended, and why?
Natural bristle brushes: contain overlapping layers which clean the hair and add luster to the hair.
Hint: the 2 m’s in “recommended” look like overlapping bristles, natural hair also has a cuticle with overlapping layers
