SCBA Flashcards
(43 cards)
T/F The SCBA only has an audible low air warning?
False Visual also
What identifies an approved CBRN regulator?
orange background label
T/F Members are fully protected from CBRN agents when wearing SCBA with proper protective clothing and proper Haz-mat training?
True
T/F The facepiece fully protects user from contaminants entering the respiratory tract?
false does not protect against entry from punctured or ruptured eardrum
T/F A member should remove their facepiece when they run out of air?
false regulator
Which is not a definition of confined space?
A-not designed for continuous human occupancy
B-not large enough to enter and work
C-has limited means of entry and escape
B- large enough to enter and work
T/F All members entering a confined space shall operate wearing their SCBA until the space is deemed safe?
False donned
T/F Glasses and contacts can be worn with ScBA?
False no glasses that have temple bars or straps that pass between facepiece seal. Get lens frame kit.
Can SCBA be used under water?
No. RT-2 if submerged
What is the service life of an air cylinder and where can it be found?
15 years on Scott label with month and year of manufacture date
When is hydrostatic testing done and where is date? What about cylinders that had retest?
5 years found on top of cylinder. retest found on label
What does the number 111 on top of cylinder mean?
It was tested jan 2011 and due for a retest jan 2016
What EOSTI alarms actuate when there is approximately 25% of full cylinder pressure remaining and how do they warn?
HUD-Heads up display on regulator- red rectangular light at far left flashing rapidly at 10x a second.
VIBRALERT- housed in regulator. Audible and vibratory warning.
*both work indpendently
What color is a training cylinder?
Blue
T/F Avoid fully depleting cylinders and leaving valve open?
True
What can be replaced on SCBA?
Nylon O-ring on high-pressure hand coupling.
use 1/8” allen wrench with 7/16” open end wrench.
Batteries-6 AA
What do you do when the UAC has a mising dust cover?
place oos with RT-2 to MSU
The PRA reduces the operating pressure to____psi before entering the regulators low pressure hose, the regulator then controls the pressure within the facepiece to___________.
100 psi
slightly above atmospheric pressure.
What happens when there is a malfunction of the PRA’s primary system?
- directs air to secondary system
- operating pressure only reduced to 150psi
- vibralert activates.
- leave contaminated area & notify officer.
What happens when both the primary and secondary systems fail in the open position?
-activates a relief valve in PRA which discharges all air in excess of 185psi into the atmosphere
Partially close cylinder valve, notify officer and leave contaminated area.
What do you do if the manual shut-off on the regulator fails to release?
turn the purge valve down 180 degrees
notify officer and leave contaminated area
What do you do when the regulator fails in the open position(too much air flow in facepiece)?
open purge valve fully and partially close cylinder valve.
notify officer and leave contaminated area
Describe the Heads-Up -Display and what all lights indicate
4-rectangular lights 1-round light. all light up for 20 sec when valve turned on. round light is on far right and lights solid for 20 sec then flashes once a sec when low battery. Two green rect lights indicate full cylinder, one green=3/4 full, one slowly flashing yellow=1/2 full, rapid flashing red on far left=1/4 full
T/F When low battery light lights up you must notify officer and leave contaminated atmosphere?
False the batteries have sufficient life to operate HUD longer than the longest duration cylinder.
