What are token economies?
Used to manage symptoms of schizophrenia they involve rewarding patients with tokens displaying desired behaviours which can lead to be exchanged for privileges or rewards.
What are examples of token economies?
They may receive tokens for attending therapy sessions or engaging in social interactions. They are positive reinforcement encouraging patients to adopt healthier behaviours.
What does the Diathesis stress model explain about schizophrenia?
Schizophrenia can develop when someone has a genetic vulnerability that interacts with stressful life events. A person might inherit genes and make them more likely to develop schizophrenia which is also influenced by environmental factors like stressful events which contribute these genetic factors.
