. A biologist uses the terrarium shown to model the interactions of plants and animals in a forest ecosystem.
Identify one benefit of using this model to study organism interactions
Identify one limitation of using this model to study organism interactions.
→ It makes it easier for scientists to collect data and control the experiments.
→ It is too simple and does not cover all interactions happening in nature.
- Summarize the carbon cycle.
Carbon Cycle: When fossil fuels are burned, CO₂ is released into the atmosphere. When there’s a lot of CO₂ in the air, it dissolves in ocean water, forming carbonic acid.
Based on the carbon cycle, hypothesize how the combustion of fossil fuels affects the amount of carbon dioxide in the ocean. Justify this hypothesis.
→ The more fossil fuels are burned, the more CO₂ is released, increasing the amount of CO₂ in the ocean.
Testing the Hypothesis:
Measure CO₂ levels in air and water, and check the pH of the water.
Photosynthesis:
photosynthesis: process used to obtain energy from the sun; makes food for plants; important for cells because food provides energy to fuel activities in the plant
- Two important processes that process used to obtain energy from the sun; makes food for plants; important for cells because food provides energy to fuel activities in the plant
Cellular Respiration:
Plants break down food to release energy and produce CO₂.
