Science Flashcards
(13 cards)
Longitudinal waves
Are waves which oscillate in a parallel direction the wave travels in.
Transverse wave
A wave that oscillates perpendicularly to the direction of the waves advance.
Sound waves
Longitudinal mechanical waves that propagate through a medium, like air, water or solids, due to vibrations
Structure of the ear
eardrum, cochlea, stirrup, anvil, hammer, ear canal,Pinna, eardrum and auditory nerve.
Use of sound waves
everyday communication and music
What is Reflection?
When a wave bounces off a boundary and doesnt pass into another medium.
what is refraction ?
When a wave changes its direction as it passes from one medium to another.
Parts of the eye ?
Iris,pupil,optic nerve,lens and retina
What are the Like poles ?
Either 2 north poles or 2 south poles.
unlike poles ?
North to south or
South to north
Electormagnets
Due to magnetic fields around magnetic currents. Can cause force with other near by magnets e.g motors to spin or loudspeaker to make sound.
Biodiversity ?
Variety of life on earth including the diversity of genes , species or eco-systems.
Natural selection
Fundamental mechanism to evolution where individuals with traits better suited to their environment are more likely to survive and reproduce
