What is Galvanism?
Running electricity through a dead body to get its limbs to move and jump around.
Where was galvanism popular?
It was popular in street performances, where people would run electricity through dead animals, and their body would jump around as if it were alive.
Who invented galvanism?
Luigi Galvani
What was the enlightenment?
The enlightenment was philosophical movement that took place primarily in Europe, People were illuminated to ‘human intellect’, and turned to science, instead of god and the church.
During the enlightenment, what were people more skeptical of?
The church, especially the catholic church, and the pope.
what is epistemology?
epistemology is the study of knowledge. (Basically, how do we know things?)
What does Tabula rasa mean?
Blank slate
What does Locke hope to demonstrate with his theory tabula rasa?
Everyone is born a blank slate, with no knowledge whatsoever, and that we only know things exist if we experience them.
