What is ecology?
Ecology is the study of the relationships of biotic and abiotic factors
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is where all the factors (biotic and abiotic) and interactions form an environment different than other environments nearby
What is a biotic factor and give examples
A biotic factor shows how a ecosystem is living. It contains birds, bugs, plants and animals
What is an Abiotic factor and give examples
An abiotic factor shows how an ecosystem is non living. It contains rocks, air, temperature, water and fire.
What is a producer?
A producer is a autotroph, meaning they’re organism which makes its own food,
What is a consumer
A consumer are heterotrophs, which means they feed on other organisms
What is a decomposer
Decomposers are heterotrophs, meaning they break down dead bodies and wastes
What is matter
Matter is anything that takes up space and can be weighed
What is energy
Energy is the ability to do work
What is a food chain
A food chain is the simplest path that energy takes through an ecosystem
What is predation
An interaction where one organism (the predator) eats another organism (the prey)
What is competition
An interaction between organisms in which they share the same resources
What is parasitism
A symbiotic relationship where one organism benefits and the other is harmed
What is mutualism
A symbolic relation where both organisms involved benefits
What is commensalism
A symbiotic relation between two organisms in one benefits and the other is neither helped or harmed: a neutral effect
Recall the world equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water + (light energy) glucose + oxygen
