Science - Cells Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is a Nucleus and it’s function?
The control center that directs all the cell’s activities.
What are chromosomes and their function?
Found inside the nucleus and contains genetic information (DNA).
What is a Cell membrane and it’s function?
A selectively permeable structure that allows materials to enter/exit the cell.
What is a Vacuole and it’s function?
Storage for water and nutrients.
What is a Mitochondria and it’s function?
Provide energy to the cell in a process called respiration.
What are ribosomes and their function?
Manufacture proteins that are important for cell growth.
What is a Cytoplasm and it’s function?
A watery fluid that allows materials to be transported from cell structures.
What is the rough ER and it’s function?
Helps make proteins, especially the ones that leave the cell or go to the cell’s surface.
What is a the smooth ER and it’s function?
Helps make fats, removes harmful substances, and stores calcium.
What is the golgi body and it’s function?
Storage for proteins and puts them into packages called vesicles.
What are lysosomes and their function?
Patrol the cytoplasm and recycle large molecules to reuse them.
What does a cell wall do?
A strong, outer layer around a plant cell that gives it shape, protects it, and helps keep it firm.
