3
Q

The definition of endothermic:-

A

Endo sounds like ‘into’ - the energy goes into the chemicals from the surroundings.

Q

The definition of exothermic:-

A

Exo sounds like ‘exit’ - the energy is leaving the chemicals and is transferred to the surroundings.

Q

The definition of evaporating:-

A

Evaporation is the process where a liquid turns into a gas only at its surface. It can happen at any temperature below the boiling point. This is a slow, continuous process where individual molecules gain enough energy from their surroundings to escape, and you won’t see any bubbles forming within the liquid.

Q

The definition of boiling:-

A

Boiling is a much more rapid process where a liquid turns into a gas throughout the entire liquid. It only occurs when the liquid reaches its specific boiling point, at which point large bubbles of vapor form within the liquid and vigorously rise to the surface. It requires a continuous, strong heat source.

Q

helpful phrases of change of state:-

A

gains enough energy/ vibrate more strongly /break free from their fixed positions/ past each other./hat occurs only at the surface of a liquid, at any temperature below the boiling point./that occurs rapidly throughout the liquid when it reaches its boiling point./liquid loses enough energy (cools down) /arrange themselves into fixed, regular positions./ gas loses enough energy (cools down) for its particles to come closer together and form a liquid/

Q

When a liquid is heated, it boils. Describe what happens to the movement and arrangement of the particles during boiling.

A

The arrangement of the particles during boiling they gain so much energy that they become completely freely and widely spaced from each other ,move rapidly in all directions and collide each other with each other or the container walls and move rapidly/quickly throughout the liquid when it reaches the boiling point.
