Science Funals Flashcards
(11 cards)
Simple Machines-
(6 of them) a machine that takes one force and changes it’s distance direction or strength
wheel and axle-
a rigid rod through the center of a wheel EX: the wheel on a bike; if you had to push it with no wheel to allow it to flow, the force that you must apply to get the bike to move would be much greater than the simple push it takes to move a bike with wheels across a path.
pully-
a grooved wheel with a rope running through the wheel
EX: The strings on projectors. They make it much easier to open and close them rather than having to manually roll up the projector.
inclined plane-
a simple machine with a flat slanted surface
EX: a ramp; it is much easier to push a stroller down a longer downhill ramp than a shorter steep uphill ramp
wedge-
an inclined plane that separates two objects
EX: A wooden doorstop; the doorstop separates the floor and a door, it helps to keep the door from closing rather than a human having to hold the door
screw-
an inclined plane wrapped around a rod
EX: a bottle cap; instead of having to
lever-
a bar that rotates around a pivot
