Science Light Test Flashcards
(15 cards)
What is a virtual image?
An image that can’t be projected onto a screen.
What is a real image?
An image that can be projected onto a screen.
Why is a pupil black?
It is black because light is absorbed and doesn’t exit the eye.
What is reflection?
Reflection is when light bounces off the surface of an object.
What is refraction?
The ray of light that changes direction when in a glass block.
How does a periscope work?
It works in that light passes through it hits the first mirror and the reflects off that mirror and then straight down onto the bottom mirror and straight out. It allows you to see at a higher viewpoint.
What is the angle of incidence?
The angle between the incident ray and the normal.
What is the angle of refraction?
The angle between the refracted ray and the normal.
How do we see a luminous object?
Rays travel directly from the object into our eyes.
How do we see a non-luminous object?
The light source illuminates the object and it reflects back to your eye.
What are the colours of the rainbow?
Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet
What is the process called when white light splits into different colours?
Dispersion
What is a spectrum?
A spectrum is formed when white light splits up and creates different rays of light.
Opaque=
Translucent=
An opaque object an object that doesn’t reflect light or doesn’t let light pass through.
A translucent object is an object that you can’t get a clear picture of it on the other side, eg. a stain-glassed window.
Transmission=
Transparent=
This is when light passes straight through an object.
A transparent object is an object that transmits light.
