What belief for the model of the solar system was Greek?
The Geocentric model
What belief for the model of the solar system was Indian?
The flat earth on stilts
What belief for the model of the solar system was from Thailand?
The world on a turtle supported by elephants
Describe the Geocentric model of the universe.
The geocentric model of the universe is that the earth is in the centre of the universe and all pf the planets revolve around the earth.
State some observations the geocentric model could explain.
- The moon orbits round the earth
What was the problem with the geocentric model?
- Why the stars change brightness
- Jupiter and Mars moved in a retrograde motion
Describe the heliocentric model.
The heliocentric model of the universe is that the sun is at the centre and everything orbits around it.
What does the current model of the universe state?
That our planets orbit around our sun and that are solar system is only a small part of our galaxy and not at the centre of the universe.
What is a theory?
An attempt to explain phenomena in our universe
When was the big bang?
13.7 Billion years ago
When was the milky way formed?
10 million years ago
What does the Big Bang Theory state?
That all of the matter in the universe was concentrated into a single tiny point. In a hot explosion it began to rapidly expand
What can be predicted from the Big Bang Theory?
The universe will continually expand
What are the first two stages of any star?
They start as Proto stars then becoming main sequence stars. After this the become red giants.
Compared to our sun, which planets will become white dwarfs?
The stars that are similar sizes to our sun
Compared to our sun, which planets will become Supernovas?
The stars that are more massive than our Sun
What can stars turn into after supernovas?
Either Neutron stars or Black holes
Where are light elements formed?
They are formed from fusion stars
What is the heaviest element made from fusion stars?
Iron (Fe)
What contains all of the known elements?
The debris of Supernovas
What are the missions of the New Horizon spacecraft?
To explore the Kuiper belt
What is a satellite?
Any object that orbits another object.
What are the uses of satellites?
- For research
- GPS
- To take photos
- Telecomunication
- Radio signals
- Predicting the weather
How do satellites stay in orbit?
By balancing two factors:
- Velocity(centripetal force)
- Gravitational pull
