What are the functions of blood
- Blood carries oxygen from your lungs to all your body cells. Carbon Dioxide diffuses from your body cells into your blood. Your blood carries carbon dioxide to your lungs to be exhaled.
- Blood carries waste products from your cells to your kidneys to be removed.
- Blood transports nutrients and other substances to your body cells.
- Cells and molecules fight infections and help heal wounds.
Identify the parts of blood
Plasma, red and white blood cells, platelets
Why are blood types checked before transfusion?
To make sure they match so they wont clot.
1 example of blood disease
Leukemia is a disease in which one or more types of white blood cells I made an excessive numbers. These immature cells fill the bone marrow and crowd out the normal mature cells.
Another example of blood disease
Anemia. In this disease of red blood cells body tissues can’t get enough oxygen and are unable to carry on their usual activities.
Vein
Blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart.
Arteries
Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart.
Capillaries
The blood vessels that connect arteries and veins.
How blood flows in the heart
Blood flows from the left atrium to the left ventricle to the aorta to the right atrium to the right ventricle and it repeats into the lungs.
Functions of the pulmonary system
The mechanical movement of air into and out of the lungs
Functions of the lymphatic system
Collect and transport tissue fluids
Lymphocytes help fight disease
Carries lymph through veins and arteries
Diffuses water into tissues
Difference between antigens and antibodies
Antigens are complex foreign molecules that don’t belong in your body.
Antibodies are proteins that are made in response to specific antigen.
Works of Pasteur
Pasteur learned that if you heat liquid to a certain point it will kill all the bacteria. This process is called pasteurization
Identify diseases caused by viruses and bacteria.
Virus- cold, flu, aids
Bacteria-strep throat
How does HIV attack your immune system?
HIV attacks helpers T cells by entering that she selling multiplying when the infected Sobers open it releases more HIV is infect other T cells. Soon many T cells are destroyed that not enough B cells are stimulated to produce antibodies.
Noninfectious diseases and their causes
Noninfectious diseases are diseases that cannot be spread.
One cause can be inherited disease where it is inherited from your parents.
Another cause can be caused from the environment. For example lung cancer.
What happens during an allergic reaction?
When you come in contact with an allergen your immune system usually performs anti-bodies. Your body reacts by releasing chemicals called histamines that promote red swollen tissues. Antihistamines are medications that can be used to treat allergenic reactions.
