Science revision HY Flashcards
(10 cards)
What are the 4 states of matter?
Solid, liquid, gas and plasma
What are the characteristics of a solid
-Atoms are in a honeycomb shape, leaving no space in between eachother
-solids stay in their shape
What are the characteristics of a liquid
-atoms more spread apart, with no fixed shape yet maintaining a distance from eachother.
-takes the shape of the container
What are the characteristics of a gas
-atoms are unrestricted and carefree, taking the shape of whatever room/container
What are the characteristics of plasma
It’s essentially an ionized gas where a significant number of atoms have lost electrons, creating a mixture of ions and free electrons. This electrically charged gas is highly conductive and influenced by electric and magnetic fields.
Density formula
density = mass/volume
What is density?
Density is the mass of a certain volume , and it depends on how tight the particles are packed together.
What is an independent variable?
An independent variable is a factor that a researcher manipulates or changes in an experiment to see if it affects another variable
What is a dependent variable?
A dependent variable is what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment
