Science-Technological Systems Flashcards

1
Q

What is a system?

A

A group of parts, mechanisms, devices or machines that are made to perform a specific task

Ex: a train: each component has a specific function and can be split into smaller systems

Outputs?

A

Elements that leave the system once the process is complete
Called:results

SYSTEMS RARELY HAVE 1 OUTOUT

Q

What is the header of manufacturing process sheet

A

Header contains general information about the part being made

Ex: title( Manufacturing process sheet)
part (clock face)

16
Q

Describe 1. Measuring and marking

A

The materials must be measured carefully and cut lines. Measurements must be PRECISE
Using rulers, metre stick, a compass or protractor

17
Q

Step 2 Machining and forming

A

Parts need to be cut using tools, and safety equipment or they are folded to give them the needed shape

Go over steps in the slides

18
Q

Step 3. Finishing

A

You must remeasure the parts sand pieces or file them stain, pain or varnish

19
Q

What is energy?

A

It is the capacity to produce change, a movement where a change happens

20
Q

4 types of useful energy?

A

Mechanical
Thermal energy
Luminous energy
Electrical energy

21
Q

What is mechanical energy?

A

Comes from the motion of an object or its position in space

22
Q

What is thermal energy?

A

Comes from the Amit ion of particles in matter.

Usually produced from combustion. (A chemical process where a substance reacts with oxygen and gives off heat)

23
Q

What is Luminous energy?

A

Is carried by light ( aka radiant energy) ex; electrical energy is transformed into luminous energy in lamps.

24
Q

What is electrical energy?

A

Is energy associated with the movement of electricity ⚡️

Electricity can be carried over long distances

25
Q

What is an energy transformation?

A

It is the conversion of one form of energy to another.

26
Q

Why is energy transformation useful?

A

Human cannot always use natural energy in direct form, so it has to be transformed to something more useful.

Ex: winds cants heat our homes but we can covert wind energy into electrical energy, then reconvert it to thermal energy.
