(31 cards)
What does the the triangle look like for speed distance and time
D= s*t
What is the difference between speed and velocity
Speed: The rate at which an object covers a certain distance
Velocity: Speed in a given direction
the formula for acceleration.
A= vf-vi/t
What are three ways to describe acceleration?
- Increasing Speed
- Decreasing Speed
- Changing direction
Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes
What is a reference point?
A reference point is a place or object used for comparison to determine if
something is in motion. An object is in motion if it changes position relative to a
reference point.
Define friction
Friction is the force that resists motion
What’s Static Friction
Frictional Force causing object(s)
to stay at rest. No Movement
What’s Sliding friction
Frictional Force between two
objects causing the object(s) to slide pass
each other.
What’s Fluid friction
Frictional Force between an object
and a fluid.
What’s Rolling friction
Frictional Force between two
objects causing the object(s) to roll.
If a toy car is rolling towards the door, what direction is the force of friction in?
Opposite to the direction in which the car is going
What is the difference between contact and non-contact force?
Contact force occurs due to the contact between two different objects. Non-contact
force occurs due to either attraction or repulsion between two objects such that there is
no contact between these objects
When an object is launched or thrown, it is called a
projectile
How can you increase the potential energy of an object?
Increasing the height of the object
Define the law of universal gravitation.
Every object is attracted to every other object with a force directly proportional to the
product of the masses of the objects and inversely proportional to the square of the
distance between them.
What is free fall?
The motion of a falling object when the only force acting on it is gravity
What is terminal velocity?
The greatest velocity an object reaches
What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces?
Balanced Force: Equal forces acting on an object in opposite directions - no change in
motion Unbalanced Force: A non-zero net force - results in changes in an object’s motion
Sound energy
A form of energy that we can hear
Chemical Energy
Energy stored in food or fuel (it holds molecules together)
Elastic Energy
Energy stored in object that are
stretched
Thermal Energy
Energy of moving particles (aka: heat energy)
Mechanical Energy
Energy of objects that are in motion
Electrical Energy
Energy of particles moving through a wire
