(35 cards)
Enzyme
A chemical in a digestive juice that chemically breaks down a specific food
Digestion
The process which food gets broken down to use for the body (molecular in size)
Glands
An organ that secretes a particular chemical substance for use in the body
chemical change
A change in a formula of a substance
inscisor
cutting
Bicuspids
chewing
Molars
grinding
canine
ripping
What are the four types of teeth?
incisor, molar, canine, bicupid
Enamel
hard protection of teeth
dentine
contains the blood vessels and nerves

- Salty
- Bitter
What is a Uvula?
It contains nerves which cause the gag reflex and this prevents you from swallowing something to big
What is the salivary glands?
They secrete a digestive juice called saliva which contains ptyalin which turns starch to sugar and this is a chemical change
Indicator of starch
Lugol’s solution (iodine) and it is brown and yellow but if you only pour it on a starch it will turn black
Indicator of sugar
Benidicts solution which when sugar is heated with it it turns from blue to green to yellow and finally orange

What is the stomach made out of?
involuntary muscle and epithelial tissue
What is A GASTRIC GLAND?
in lining of stomach which produces gastric juice and the gastric juice is made of pepsin with HCl (acts on all other proteins) and renin (turns milk into curds and way) 97% is water and the other 3% is pepsin with HCl and renin
