Science Test Study Flashcards
(31 cards)
How are living things classified
What physical features they have in common
Why are living things classified
To make it easier to identify different organisms
What is the Linnaeus system of classification
Kingdom phylom class order family genus species
King Paul cried out for good soup
What is a species
A group of living organisms that are similar individuals and can only breed with one another
What is an ecosystem
biological community of organisms
How do physical surroundings affect the ecosystem
Animals have to adapt to their habitat and can’t survive in habitat that is not there own
What are populations
The amount of similar organisms in one area
Consumer
Consumes producers
Producers
Produces its own food
Herbivore
Only eats plants so producers
Omnivore
Eats meat and plants so consumers and producers
Carnivore
Eats meat… consumers only
What are 2 things that flow through a food chain
Consumers and producers
What is photosynthesis
It is how a plant makes it food with sunlight and co2 and breathes out o2
What is the primary source of energy used for all organisms
Sun
What it the level of energy that passes from one food chain level to the next
10%
Can you draw a food chain
Grass –> grasshopper–> magpie
What is a food web
Like food chain but more complicated with more detail
Can I draw a food chain
Yes but not on I pad way to difficult
What is an apex predator
The top of a food chain it has no predators
What are microbes
Bacteria and fungi
What are fungi
An organism that is a decomposer not a plant or animal apart of its own kingdom
What are some examples of microbes and fungi
mold, mushrooms are fungi and bacteria are microbes
Why are microbes and fungi important to the ecosystem
They are decomposes and without them nothing would get decomposed
