9
Q

why is helium used in balloons?

A

Hydrogen is lighter than air but it is flammable and as oxygen is present in the air, so the risk of explosion and fire is there. Helium is lighter than air and it is a non-combustible (flammable) gas so it used to fill balloons.

12
Q

why would you mix different metals (ie. alloy) to build certain things instead of using pure metals?

A

to make the metal stronger
for example: coins (silver+copper+nickel), jewellery (gold+copper+silver+zinc)
