Science Vocab Flashcards
(11 cards)
Radiation
the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles that cause ionization.
Convection
the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise, and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity, which consequently results in transfer of heat.
Physical property
can be observed or measured without changing the composition of matter.
Physical change
in matter that involves the substance going from one physical state to another.
Chemical change
occur when a substance combines with another to form a new substance, called chemical synthesis or, alternatively.
Chemical property
is any of a material’s properties that becomes evident during, or after, a chemical reaction; that is, any quality that can be established only by changing a substance’s chemical identity.
Speed
of an object is the magnitude of its velocity
Friction
When to things rub together
Newtons 1st law
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
Newtons 2nd law
The acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force
Newtons 3rd law
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
