Scientific Method ikilallslsl
A process for experimentation that is used to explore observations and answers to questions.
Problem
a question that you have that can be answered via an experiment.
Question
A scientific question can be answered by making observations with your five senses and gathering evidence.
Hypothesis
a testable statement about the relationship between two or more variables or a proposed explanation for some observed phenomenon.
Experiment
an empirical procedure that arbitrates competing models or hypotheses.
Data
a gathered body of facts.
Analyze
to study (something) closely and carefully
Results
the final consequence of a sequence of actions or events expressed qualitatively or quantitatively
Conclusion
No significant difference existed between the height of stressed plants and non-stressed plants
Observation
the act of knowing and recording something.
Trial
The act of testing by experience; proof; test.
Procedure
an organism that creates its own food or energy
Independent variable
the variable you manipulate, control, or vary in an experimental study to explore its effects.
Dependent variable
what changes as a result of the independent variable manipulation in experiments.
Control
to ensure that the observed results are not just random events;
Fact
an indisputable observation of a natural or social phenomenon
Opinion
a statement describing a personal belief or thought that cannot be tested (or has not been tested) and is unsupported by evidence
Guess
Hypothesis
Prediction
describes what the data should look like if the hypothesis or theory fits the real world
Quantitative
any pieces of information that can be displayed using numbers.
Qualitative
a scientific method of observation to gather non-numerical data
Inference
the process of drawing conclusions based on evidence and reasoning
Communication
a variety of practices that transmit scientific ideas, methods, knowledge and research to non-expert audiences in an accessible, understandable or useful way
Bias
any tendency which prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question
